When people think of architecture, residential homes are usually not a priority. We think of impressive buildings that push the boundaries of engineering and design.
And while large-scale architecture is impressive, residential architecture also deserves some recognition.
Prishram Jain, the award-winning principal architect of TACT Architecture, as well as the architect and owner of 11 North Drive, has created a home that embodies the architectural principles of “warm modernism”.

It refers to “an approach to modern architecture that challenges the claim that modernism [needs] be cold and clinical,” explained owner Jain.

“Honesty and integrity in the selection of materials and the way they are used is recognized as one of the main tenets of the modernist movement.”

The four-bedroom, eight-bathroom home uses natural stones and woods, warm colors, textures, and light to create a friendly, approachable style of modernism that is easily embraced.

And while modern homes aren’t for everyone, and the idea of warm modernism is a little unattainable in its academic and philosophical roots, Jain told blogTO that’s the feeling you get in the house which is the main point.

“The ultimate test is the experience people have of architecture. Although one may never have enjoyed a modern house before, they love their experience with this house,” he said. .

“For a house to speak for itself through the experience it elicits in its inhabitants and guests, that is after all what good architecture is. Calmly and positively creating a better quality of life .”
