Senior Project Manager at SVA International

Main objective of the role:

The role will include exposure to varied and large-scale projects within SVA’s area of ​​involvement, and will require a wide range of experience across the development spectrum. To build existing project management capacity within the practice, and to provide leadership and strategic implementation of the various project management committees within the SVA project portfolio.
SVA International is looking for a Senior Project Manager with proven abilities and a commitment to excellence.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Management of several construction projects at a given time.
  • Provide leadership to various project teams comprised of internal staff and external consultants.
  • Take over management of the Johannesburg Project Management division, managing selected projects and stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and future customers and stakeholders.
  • Manage the complete project management function, which includes program development and delivery for workflows, design and specification delivery, progress, project administration.
  • Ensure that the delivery of office services meets the required deadlines and delivery frameworks, in collaboration with the internal production teams.
  • Act as lead agent when required, manage delivery and risk on time, cost and quality.
  • Manage change, control time, cost and delivery impacts.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and contractual specifications.
  • Stakeholder relationship management
  • Manage the supply of goods and services;
  • Chair and lead technical coordination meetings with other consultants.
  • Chair and direct site progress and technical meetings with contractors and subcontractors.
  • Prepare and present monthly progress reports to stakeholders.
  • Formulation and approval of the main contractual programs.
  • Ensure that all contract data is recorded and maintained in an organized filing system.
  • Support and advise other team members relevant to the position.
  • Ensure that all relevant OHS practices are implemented on projects.

Qualification:

  • A recognized National Diploma or Diploma in the field of construction / building,
  • Be professionally registered with the South African Council for the Construction and Project Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM) for at least 5 years.
  • A graduate degree in project management would be an advantage. (PMP or similar)

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of extensive experience in a project/construction management capacity on construction projects with a minimum value of R100 million.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading multidisciplinary professional teams.
  • Proven experience in managing contractor/delivery relationships in the South African context. Good working relationships with leading contractors will be beneficial.
  • Proven experience in managing the evaluation, adjudication and settlement of contract claims.
  • Proficiency in the application and interpretation of contract forms for the built environment, eg: JBCC, GCC, NEC, FIDIC
  • An active network of working relationships with fellow professional consultants and contractors that can be leveraged.
