The award-winning team at GGLO, a collaborative design firm, is looking for a Project Architect – Highrise for our Seattle office to support our growth across multiple locations, disciplines, markets and project types.

About the role

The Senior Project Architect – Highrise (PA) is a key technical member in the success and delivery of our project work. GGLO Architects have the technical responsibility to execute the design concept of a project through construction documents. For this, the PA must understand and keep an eye on the big picture, while being grounded in the details. The success of a project, from concept to construction, depends on the clarity, completeness, accuracy and overall quality of our project documents. The PA must coordinate the many aspects of a project in order to achieve the desired result – excellent design delivered through excellent document sets.

Core Duties and Responsibilities


Possess knowledge of the phases of the design and construction process of high-rise buildings

Possess knowledge of high rise building materials and detailing, curtain wall systems and high rise code regulations

Demonstrate an understanding of the broader context and impact of design

Understand the code and regulations governing the industry and the ability to perform research for the jurisdictions in which we work

· Work closely with the GGLO Project Specification team to develop, review and coordinate project specifications

Advancing and effectively exploring the design opportunities offered by each project

Assist the PM in communicating with the client, contractor and other internal and external stakeholders, which includes some travel

· Coordinate and collaborate with sub-consultant team to develop and detail project systems; review consultant’s drawings for technical accuracy


· Act as a coach and mentor for other architects and production staff

· Communicate effectively with Technical Lead, Project Manager, Project Designer and other internal stakeholders

· Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the BIM Execution Plan

Skillfully manage time and priorities and communicate these to the project team


Effectively perform work requiring independent judgment and problem solving

· Demonstrate the use of a clear and open process to resolve issues

Develop a full understanding of GGLO’s quality management process and procedures

Understand the implications and timing of the overall project schedule with the ability to guide the production team based on this schedule

About you

Professional knowledge and experience

· Experience in one of GGLO’s main markets: office, multifamily and mixed use

Skyscraper construction methodologies

· Able to organize and supervise the work of others

Able to coordinate and manage a team of consultants

Technological expertise

Understand major building systems, detailing and constructability

· Responsible for understanding the applicable codes specific to the discipline; Building code, land use, zoning, accessibility, etc.

A high level of proficiency in the software used, including Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Bluebeam Revu and Adobe Creative Suite

· Understanding of how to solve unusual or complex problems

Knowledge and understanding of sustainable programs and goals

· Ability to communicate effectively and quickly using a variety of graphic techniques


· Licensed architect

15+ years experience in a professional design office focused on high rise projects

· Demonstrated proficiency with Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and other design delivery tools

· Understanding of all aspects and phases of the architectural production process, major building systems, detailing and constructability

Ability to understand best practices associated with the technical implications of design decisions

Experience in producing quality construction documents and leading other production teams and consultants in the preparation of these documents

· Current authorization to work in the United States
