The Office of Strategic Programs manages and implements the transformational change associated with the education offer at King’s, as well as the services and processes that support our students. To help implement the education strategy, the team provides program and project support through a variety of activities and works closely with colleagues in a range of central departments and faculties to ensure that developments are fit for purpose and student-centered. We aim to provide a great experience for students and staff while supporting the growth of the university in a financially sustainable way and simplifying the way we do things, enabling us to work better together and investing in our people. and our systems.
We are part of the Students and Education Branch, a set of professional services established to support King’s students and their education. As a leadership, we manage the student life cycle, from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a cohesive and transparent student experience and efficient administrative processes, working closely with faculties of King to do this.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint two Project Managers, one permanent and one fixed-term, to lead projects within the Education and Students Transformation (EAST) portfolio, in order to achieve the goals of Vision 2029 and the Education Strategy. . Based within the Directorate of Students and Education, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of small and medium-sized projects and / or supporting the delivery of larger or complex projects that meet the needs of the organization, while respecting budgets and deadlines. , and quality. You will need to build relationships within the university community, engaging with colleagues in professional services and faculties.
The portfolio includes a wide range of projects, and you will be expected to execute all stages of the project lifecycle, as well as support broader strategic development, realization of benefits, and change management approaches. The team also contributes to the university’s transformation agenda, encouraging best practices and common standards.
It’s an exciting time to join the team: a significant expansion of our transformation program is underway to improve the student experience at King’s, with changes underway or planned in systems, processes, people, data and policies. We are now looking for creative and adaptable Project Managers who want to develop their transformational skills and help us accelerate the operationalization of planned strategic changes and the transformation of our services to deliver a 21st century student experience.

- Lead the delivery of small to medium sized projects within the EAST portfolio, ensuring these support strategic goals and benefits, supporting prioritization of activities across the portfolio and working within the framework overall resource allocation.
- Work with business leaders to define new projects within the portfolio, undertake data analysis, agree on acceptance criteria, understand and identify change requirements and business benefits, evaluate delivery options and integrate requirements of equality, diversity and inclusion in the planning and delivery of the project.
- Develop business cases, project summaries, project plans and work packages, integrating change management requirements, monitoring and controlling scope, quality and resources, and identifying and managing risks and problems, working within agreed frameworks.
- Build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, whether they are academic staff, professional services staff or external partners.
- Manage project governance structures such as project committees and provide detailed project reports including financial reports and develop and monitor benefit realization plans to demonstrate delivery against overall portfolio goals.
- Plan and deliver communications associated with projects in accordance with the program communications plan and achieve successful change management results.
- Manage, motivate and direct the work of staff assigned to projects to ensure projects are carried out successfully.
- Manage the transition of projects to “business as usual”, to ensure that new ways of working are integrated into operational teams.
- Represent the Office of Strategic Programs and act as a champion of change and best practices.

Skills, knowledge and experience
- Relevant work experience and / or education: We believe that a wide range of different work and educational experiences could help you be successful in this role. Relevant professional experience would include at least two years of experience in managing the delivery of strategic projects. Relevant educational experiences may include graduate study in a related discipline, professional qualifications or other training.
- Demonstrable skills and experience with project management tools and techniques including scoping, business case development, planning, controls and reporting, risk management and benefit management.
- Demonstrable skills and experience in human change management tools and techniques, including impact assessments and stakeholder management.
- Experience in delivering projects with tangible results and benefits.
- Strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize and interpret information and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Excellent computer skills to support project delivery eg MS Office suite, SharePoint and MS Teams, PowerBI, project management, presentation software.
- Experience of engaging and motivating teams, with an ability to liaise effectively with colleagues from different professional backgrounds.
- Adaptability and flexibility to work in multiple fields in a complex and fast-paced environment, comfortable with ambiguity and complexity.
- Demonstrated commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- A recognized qualification in project management or change management, for example Prince2, PROSCI
- Experience with review and process improvement methods, e.g. Lean Six Sigma
- Experience using Microsoft Project
- Knowledge and understanding of the UK higher education sector
