IT Project Manager at University of Cape Town – Western Cape Mowbray

This is an opportunity for two experienced IT Project Managers (PMs) to be part of UCT’s exciting journey as it refines its IT strategy in line with its strategic objectives and continues to explore and deliver innovative and quality ICT services to its students, scholars, researchers and the wider stakeholder community.
The University is looking to hire two Senior IT Managers in its Department of Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) – one on a permanent basis and the other on a contract basis fixed term of 12 months. A hybrid remote work model is offered with most work and engagements done virtually. However, occasional in-person engagement may be required on-site at Cape Town-based offices.
Both positions will report to the Head of IT Project Management Office within the IT Governance Support Services (GSS) Division of the ICTS Department.

Do you excel in project planning and management? Are you proactive, dynamic, motivated and passionate about IT and project management? Are you able to navigate organizational structures and “read the room” to build rapport and build strong working relationships with diverse stakeholder groups? Do you have experience effectively managing project teams comprised of both technical and “commercial” resources? Are you proficient in Waterfall and Agile project management methodologies and using appropriate project control mechanisms with a solid understanding of project governance requirements?

The main objective of the role is to effectively plan and manage IT projects using industry standard project management methodologies, principles and controls throughout the complete project life cycle, from initiation, planning, design, construction (iterative) and implementation through to successful close. of the project.

As a seasoned IT project manager, you will be exposed to a range of projects (e.g. business process re-engineering, systems development, IT infrastructure, governance, risk and compliance and IT-related projects). computer security) and participate in a wide range of projects. group of stakeholders ranging from technical teams to members of the Academic, Research and PASS departments, and third party service providers/vendors.

Appointment to this position will require the following:

Minimum requirements:

  • At least an NQF Level 5 qualification in Information Systems, IT Management, IT Project Management or related field;
  • A completed and industry-recognized project management certification (at the practitioner level);
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant IT project management experience as a senior project manager on large scale complex ICT projects;
  • Proven track record of successfully leading projects with diverse stakeholder groups, including technical teams, business stakeholders/senior executives, and technology partners/third-party service providers;
  • Strong experience in personal leadership and effective team;

Additional requirements:

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience managing a combination of technology infrastructure and application/system related projects with a solid understanding of the systems development life cycle;
  • Proven experience in establishing effective project governance and in producing and maintaining required project documentation and artifacts;
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong planning, organization, coordination and time management skills;
  • Strong group facilitation and presentation skills;
  • Moderate to advanced proficiency in the use of MS Office and recognized project management software.

The following would be to your advantage:

  • An accredited graduate degree in project management;
  • Familiarity with the higher education sector in South Africa;
  • Experience in managing organizational change as a catalyst for successful project delivery;

The all-inclusive annual remuneration package offered is negotiable between R427,228 and R790,107, depending on whether candidates are considered for the 12-month contract position or the permanent position.
