Salary: Freelance Fee: £19,500 (equivalent to 3 days per week for 26 weeks and/or project completion)

Facing the past is an arts/research program aimed at reflecting, revealing and redressing omissions in the way Lancaster commemorated its role as the UK’s fourth largest slave port. It receives funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

Role:

As part of a larger network of cultural programming, this position will oversee the coordination and implementation of a digital journey, map and community archive that will serve as the basis for new understanding and response. cultural significance to the complexity of slavery issues both historical and connected to the present day.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage the work plan, ensuring timelines, budget and timelines are met
  • Engage stakeholder engagement and cultivate relationships in the process from design, delivery to review of results
  • Coordinate all appropriate consents and clearances, if required, related to planning, legal or finance
  • Lead internal project communications ensuring Directors and other Facing the Past Project Managers are knowledgeable and engaged
  • Supervise and support the Digital Trail activity: Project Coordinator
  • Support Facing the Past volunteers as needed
  • Keep accurate records of meetings, progress and results
  • Work with local authorities to ensure all building permits are applied for in a timely manner, directing physical exit from the public realm
  • Ensure the quality of Digital Trail recordings and develop upload protocols as necessary to ensure community archiving is safe, accessible and feasible
  • Provide the Coping with the Past steering group with ongoing revenue streams to support the long-term legacy of the project through a feasibility assessment
  • Develop and implement marketing and evaluation feedback
