Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is determined to renew Reece James’ contract
According to Daily Mail, Reece James’ future is seen as a top priority by new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.
Of course, James is a squad player for Thomas Tuchel’s west London club and has long proven himself as such. For example, last season alone saw Chelsea’s performance suffer when the full-back was forced out for a long period of time. The Blues’ ranks have largely lacked the Englishman’s skills at both ends of the pitch.
And yet, so far, those in positions of authority at Stamford Bridge have failed to offer Cobham’s youth product a deserving pay rise commensurate with its significant importance.
James was fantastic for Chelsea before picking up the injury midway through the season, and given his importance to the team, he’s woefully underpaid compared to most of his team-mates. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is now believed to have put the issue of James’ renewal at the top of his to-do list.
Reece James is arguably the best right-back in the Premier League, along with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manchester City star Joao Cancelo. The Blues star is only going to get better with time given his young age.
The 22-year-old, a right-back who often likes to run forward and throw crosses, is equally adept defensively and does a great job of holding his man back. The Cobham graduate stands out from the competition greatly due to his superb goal scoring skills.
Chelsea need to understand they can’t afford to lose games, and would be wise to sign James to a new long-term deal as soon as possible. The Englishman is Chelsea’s present and future, and he deserves a pay rise.

Our team needs to link it quickly before other teams show too much interest. Although his intentions were always to stay loyal and stay at Chelsea, we have to treat him like the superstar he is. For too long there has been transfer interest from Real Madrid.
Chelsea must give him a pay rise and lock him into a long contract. The current report claims that the club have already taken the first step, and it’s a good start.
