Gavin Leon, Commonwealth Bank’s product manager for open banking, left the bank after more than 18 years in total to join software company Atlassian.
Leon announced his departure via LinkedIn, stating that he will join Atlassian in mid-March.
Atlassian and Commonwealth Bank declined to comment on the decision.
“Today is my last day at ABC. I am privileged to have worked with so many amazing people who have given me a chance, genuinely care about what they do and are great at their craft, ”Leon wrote.
“Thank you for your friendship and everything you have taught me. I am grateful for the fantastic opportunities to learn and grow by working on meaningful initiatives that few companies in Australia can do.
“As one chapter ends, another begins. I’m excited to start my next chapter at Atlassian in mid-March.
Leon was appointed Product Manager (CPO) for the bank opened in January 2020.
Leon called the launch of the first phase of ABC’s open bank in July last year as a “milestone” for the bank “while advancing our technology strategy.”
Beginning his career at CBA in 2002, Leon rose through the ranks of Director of Service Delivery to Executive Director of Digital Data and Analytics before taking on the role of CPO for Open Banking.
As Portfolio Manager for Digital Channels at CBA, Leon assisted in the program delivery of CommBank’s consumer digital sites and mobile apps such as NetBank, CommBank.com.au and the CommBank mobile app.
CBA also recently lost its lead engineer for a container-as-a-service platform that hosts critical workloads such as open banking, Dário Nascimento, to the British brokerage firm CMC Markets.
However, despite the apparent overlap in open banking development work, it is not clear whether the departures are linked in any way.
